I just wanted to make it known that SS14 will be cross-platform (Windows,Mac,Linux, maybe Android). Due to the fact that most Linux distros come packaged with the OpenJDK. That is something I will be testing with in the future for the Linux build. The Oracle JDK distro is what is currently used and preferred on Windows.
Also, that handy little Xbox 360, or any game controller that can be used with PC, will be available in SS14 to use for movement, maybe User Interface input like conversations and dialog boxes. Eventually, I would also like to add Touch input for movement for tablets or a Windows 8 PC that supports it. By touching a point you tell your character you want to move there and it calculates a path. Same thing will be accomplished using the mouse pointer. Game controllers, like Xbox 360 game pad, will have to use the joystick for movement.
That's all for now. Carry on.

Cross-platform is a great little addon but with XBox controlers or game pads in mind it will be very hard to get around ingame. Imagine chatting with a gamepad - total overload and ragequit But let's see how it'll work out. Going to android would be nice but also kinda hard to play on it. With tablets I think thats not that much of a problem with a solution like pathing.

For chatting the keyboard will be required. Should have clarified that. If you are on a android device there will more then likely be a built in touch pad/keyboard. I agree a tablet is probably going to be easier to play with or a big phone like the Galaxy Note series.

Ok, I get it. So gamepads are an addon ? I suggest to keep the gamepad in mind but first concentrate on a pure mac / pc version followed by android, tablets, phones and least gamepads.

Gamepad support won't take much to put in just adding a couple classes here and there. PC operating systems are the primary goal. Android is a bonus. I'm thinking that small android phones might not be a good target. But that is for another discussion on the dev board.
